What will my child learn at Kindergarten?
Our curriculum, Te Whāriki endorsed by the Ministry of Education is founded on the belief that we want ‘children to grow up as confident and competent learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society’. The curriculum reflects the cultural heritage of both partners to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Planning the curriculum Te Whāriki is a continuing process and involves the critical role adults’ play in supporting children’s learning and in the provision of a rich and challenging learning environment. The teachers carefully observe children at work and play to identify strengths; skills, behaviours and interests, then plan appropriately. It could be an individual child or a small group of children, a need to improve a particular area of the environment or changes to the core programme. The teachers are planning and providing for numerous different learning experiences at any one time.
